I periodically get a "3043 - Disk or Network Error" message

This seems to happens periodically in the following situations:

There may be more reasons, and we're trying to catch them and program around them. Some we can control, some we can't. If they come up often on your Windows 95, 98 or ME computer, try this first:

  1. Click START - RUN and in the dialog box, type SYSEDIT and click OK.
  2. Select the tab marked AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  3. Be sure that both the following entries are there (type them in if they're missing) and then click FILE - SAVE.

SET TEMP = C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET TMP = C:\WINDOWS\TEMP

Once this is done, you can exit the System Configuration Editor, and then restart your computer.

This may solve the problem for you -- apparently the Microsoft Access database engine that we use to keep the databases in order needs to know where the temporary Windows work file is. The Microsoft folks say that making this change to the autoexec.bat file should help.
